Carpets act as a filter. Earlier the general notion used to be to leave the carpets hanging till they were visibly dirty. People thought that they should let their carpets be as long as they could. They thought the sooner they cleaned them, the sooner they would be dirtied. The birth of this misconception was due to the lack of availability of options to clean carpets with at the time when wall to wall carpets was being popularized. People were stuck with using soap and buckets of water and lots of scrubbing to clean their carpet. Obviously, this was not a very enjoyable task. But today we have the options of cleaning our carpets in tons of way be it enzymatic cleaners, detergents or vinegar. You even have the option of hiring a carpet cleaner to do it for you! But for the more enthusiastic ones, here’s a general guide on how to clean your carpets. Now for the guide on Carpet Cleaning in Okotoks:

Carpet Cleaning in Okotoks In Progress

VACUUM YOUR CARPET THOROUGHLY
Always start vacuuming from the region of the room that is exactly opposite to the door and then moves out slowly. This way you avoid walking on the recently vacuumed area and dirtying your carpet with your feet. Then vacuum left to right and front to back. Although you may feel like you are doing unnecessary and redundant work, you will end up sucking out most of the dirt embedded in the fibres that you would have missed otherwise. This is important as the presence of microbes and other bacteria will be considerably reduced because of which the probability of dust allergies will be minimized.
In areas of heavy traffic, vacuum more than once. Go over and over the heavily soiled region to prevent any dirt from being left behind on the carpet.

STAIN REMOVAL

Depending on the type of stain, stains can be classified into different groups and treated accordingly. One such list is provided below:

Types of Stains & Stain Treatments
A. Water soluble stains – First blot thoroughly with paper towels. Then apply a solution of 1/2 teaspoon (no more) of liquid dish-washing detergent to one quart of water, A spray bottle works well. Blot repeatedly with paper towels. Rinse well with water. Repeat this process until the stain is removed.

B. Water soluble stains with odour – Treat like an ordinary water-soluble stain, but treat with white vinegar before using dish-washing detergent. Water-soluble stains with heavy colour – Same as water-soluble stains but treat with household ammonia before using detergent,

C. Water-soluble stains with heavy colour – same as water-soluble stains, but treat with household ammonia before using detergent.

D. Grease – Blot as much as possible with white paper towels. Apply volatile solvents such as 1,1, 1 -trichloromethane to paper towels and repeat blotting. DO NOT APPLY SOLVENT DIRECTLY to carpet, Repeat until stain is removed. Use rubber gloves and provide adequate ventilation.

E. Waxes and Gum – Freeze stain with ice or commercially available product in an aerosol can. Shatter with a blunt object and vacuum immediately. Repeat until stain is removed.

F. Medical Stains – Commercial preparations are available, a 5% Sodium Sulphate solution (from a photography store) may also be used, for stains more than a few hours old, this solution should be heated,

G. Rust – Most rust stains can be removed with a 10% solution of Oxalic Acid, More stubborn rust stains will require professional cleaning as restricted chemicals may be necessary.

STEAM CLEANING
It is used as a part of every carpet cleaner’s cleaning regimen because of the benefits provided by this simple cleaning technique such as removal of embedded dirt, soil and other loosely present contaminants. Once you have bought a new carpet cleaner, fill hot water into the steam cleaner’s cleaning tank. Add as much cleaning solution as needed. Start cleaning, that is, moving over the carpet from the opposite side of where the door is so that you don’t have to walk over the carpet while cleaning. Go over the carpet several times to extract as much of cleaning solution as possible. It is important to be slow while doing the extraction as otherwise water will remain in the carpet and breed mould, mildew, etc.
